In a moment of clarity, Bruce humbles himself before God. He admits his failure and asks to be released from his powers. God appears again, explaining that the point was not for Bruce to be a perfect God, but to understand that

God (Morgan Freeman) responds by appearing as a janitor and offers Bruce a chance to try running the universe himself.
