What is the Dhātupāṭha? The Dhātupāṭha (धातुपाठ) is a foundational text of Sanskrit grammar. Literally meaning “recitation of roots,” it is a classified list of approximately 2,000+ verbal roots ( dhātus ) that form the basis of verb conjugation and derivative formation in Sanskrit. It is traditionally attributed to Pāṇini (c. 500 BCE) as part of his Aṣṭādhyāyī – the master grammar of Sanskrit.
