When Horizon Zero Dawn launched on PC in 2020, it was met with a storm of mixed reviews. The core game was (and still is) a masterpiece—a lush, robotic-dinosaur-filled open world with a gripping story. But for many PC players, the experience was hamstrung by one persistent technical gremlin: abysmally long load times.

Fast forward to today, with patches and better hardware, the issue hasn't vanished entirely. If you are staring at that spinning circle for 45+ seconds every time you fast travel or reload a save, you are not alone. Let’s break down why this happens and, more importantly, how to fix it. First, a hard truth: Your expensive RTX graphics card is not the culprit. Horizon Zero Dawn is a "data-streaming" monster. Unlike linear corridor shooters, this game has to load thousands of assets (trees, machines, textures, dialogue files) simultaneously.
