The survey included questions on demographics, language proficiency, and viewing habits, while the interviews provided more in-depth insights into the motivations and preferences of the respondents.
The Indian film industry, also known as Bollywood, has experienced significant growth in recent years, with a global audience and increasing demand for its content. However, language barriers often limit the reach of Bollywood movies to non-Hindi speaking audiences. English subtitles have emerged as a solution to bridge this gap. The study found that the majority of respondents were non-Hindi speaking individuals who wanted to enjoy Bollywood movies without language barriers. The results also showed that English subtitles were often downloaded from online platforms, including pirate websites. The survey and interview data revealed that the demand for English subtitles was driven by a desire to access content that was not readily available in the respondents' native languages.
