If you are a fan of Resident Evil 5 and tried to launch the Steam version recently, you have likely encountered the dreaded "Failed to initialize Games for Windows Live" error.

Released in 2009, the original PC port of Resident Evil 5 relied on Microsoft’s defunct service. Although Capcom released a "RE5 Gold Edition" that removed GFWL, many players still own the original RE5 (non-Gold) version.
