Leo stared at the file name glowing on his cracked monitor:

He clicked “Create Server.” Dustbowl. 24 players. He’d play with bots.
But when the map loaded, the server list flickered. One other human IP address appeared. A ping of 12.
He tabbed back in.
No avatar. No profile. Just a default Sniper with the default rifle and a k/d ratio that implied he’d never stopped playing this cracked version for thirteen years.
“Fitgirl packed it, but I kept it alive. 1.1.4.1. No item servers means no tracking. No tracking means no end. We’ve been playing here for years. You’re the first new person since 2019.”
He looked up the IP address on his phone.
