★★★½ (3.5/5) – Great audio and efficient video, but resolution holds it back from greatness.
Here’s a proper review for the release you’ve referenced: Paatal.Lok.S02E01.720p.HEVC.Hindi.WEB-DL.5.1.ES...
If you’re bandwidth- or storage-constrained but still want a solid viewing experience, this 720p HEVC release is a smart choice—especially with the 5.1 audio intact. Picture purists should look for higher resolutions. For most fans, though, this is a perfectly acceptable way to return to Paatal Lok ’s haunting world. ★★★½ (3
The 5.1 surround track is a standout feature for a 720p encode. Dialogue is clear and centered, while ambient sounds—city noise, rural tension, heavy silence—are well placed across channels. The LFE channel adds weight to intense moments. If you have a proper surround setup, this elevates the gritty, immersive atmosphere that Paatal Lok is known for. Streaming at 5.1 on a WEB-DL source ensures no transcoding artifacts that often plague re-encodes. For most fans, though, this is a perfectly
The season opener wastes no time plunging back into the dark underbelly of Indian society. The writing remains taut, with layered character motivations and morally gray conflicts. The pacing is deliberate, favoring mood and tension over action. Performances are top-tier, anchored by a weary, desperate lead. The episode successfully re-establishes the show’s signature bleak tone while hinting at a larger, more personal conspiracy.
The 720p resolution, combined with HEVC (H.265) encoding, offers a decent balance between file size and visual fidelity. On a typical monitor or TV viewed at a reasonable distance, the image is sharp enough, with good detail in close-ups and mid-range shots. However, darker scenes—of which Paatal Lok has many—can show slight blockiness or banding due to the higher compression efficiency of HEVC at lower bitrates. It’s certainly watchable but won’t satisfy those seeking pristine, high-bitrate 1080p or 4K.
I only heard this for the first time a few years ago. I was pretty impressed, it’s a lot better than its rep. Pleasuredome had more peaks, like you say, but more filler too. All the cover versions midway really bring that album down for me. Guess they got sick of doing them too, judging by the Heroin story!

Yes, I think the covers thing was much more Paul Morley’s bag than the band’s…
